PERSONAL HISTORY
Ken Adkisson is
a native Nashvillian who completed his architectural training at the
University of Tennessee in Knoxville. Upon completion of his studies,
Ken returned to Nashville to begin his internship with the firm of Taylor
& Crabtree Architects in the fall of 1978.
During his tenure
at Taylor & Crabtree, Mr. Adkisson worked closely with both principals
and was involved with a wide variety of commercial, educational, religious
and residential commissions. During the four years at Taylor and Crabtree,
Ken's responsibilities expanded from draftsman to project manager and
new business development. During that time, he received state board
and national certification through the National Council of Architectural
Registration Boards. Shortly after the merger of Taylor & Crabtree
and Wiley/Wilson Engineers of Lynchburg, Virginia, Mr. Adkisson began
to formulate plans for the foundation of a new architectural firm with
co-workers.
In January of 1983,
he joined forces with Mark Harrison and Steve Rick to form Adkisson
Harrison & Rick Architects, Incorporated. The firm was founded with
the goal of provided personalized service through a Partner-in-Charge
style of project management. Obviously, the proposed management style
would limit the volume of work and ultimately the size of the firm.
However, the founding partners agreed that the quality of service would
develop a select client base.
With the departure
of Mr. Rick, Adkisson Harrison & Associates was incorporated in
the summer of 1990. Throughout the past 17 years, Mr. Adkisson has held
the title of President. Duties have included firm management, project
management and new business development. Ken's technical experience
has included a wide variety of office, retail, educational, institutional
and government commissions. Specialized areas of expertise have included
child development facilities and entertainment venues for Regal Cinemas.
